Every member of GEDS is expected to adhere to the following principles and uphold the highest standards of behaviour and communication, in order to foster a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment where all members can thrive creatively and collaboratively.
Core principles
- Treat all members, volunteers, and guests with respect, kindness, and empathy.
- Honour the diverse backgrounds, abilities, cultures, and experiences of all participants.
- Refrain from engaging in discriminatory, harassing, or inappropriate behaviour, whether verbal, physical, or written.
- Refrain from using access to members’ contact information (phone number, email address, postal address, social media platforms) in order to abuse or communicate in an aggressive or unpleasant manner.
- Communicate in a manner that is respectful and supportive.
- Provide feedback constructively, focusing on the work and not the individual.
- Avoid any form of aggressive or dismissive language, including in online communications.
- Work together with fellow members to achieve shared artistic goals.
- Support each other’s creative contributions and ideas, even when disagreements arise.
- Take responsibility for resolving conflicts calmly and respectfully.
- Attend rehearsals, meetings, and performances promptly, prepared, and fully committed.
- Notify relevant members adequately in advance if unable to attend or fulfill an obligation.
- Be accountable for your actions and contributions to the society.
- Treat rehearsal spaces, costumes, props, and equipment with care and responsibility.
- Clean up after yourself and leave spaces as you found them.
- Look out for your own well-being and that of others.
- Report any concerns about safety, harassment, or breaches of this Code of Conduct to the committee promptly.
Consequences of breach
Members who fail to adhere to the Code of Conduct may face actions including:
- Verbal or written warnings.
- Temporary suspension from activities.
- Permanent removal from GEDS (as a last resort).
